Jonathan founded Step Safe in 2003 after visiting a Cambodian landmines aid center and, while there, meeting Tun Channareth, an inspirational anti-landmines campaigner. Since this time, Jonathan graduated from law school and worked for several years as a banking and finance lawyer with Clayton Utz, one of Australia's largest law firms.

Jonathan has two related passions: Step Safe and microfinance. Over several years in which Step Safe funded selected Cambodian microfinance organizations, Jonathan learned about the operations and challenges of donor-supported microfinance. As a result, he began researching methods of using donor funds to help microfinance providers to develop into fully fledged, private microfinance banks which can fund their own growth without donor support.
Jonathan is currently developing his research through a Masters in Law and Finance degree, which he is undertaking at Oxford University.

Aside from these quite serious interests, Jonathan loves tennis, impersonating his many siblings, traveling and karaoke.
