Education

  • Step Safe partnered with local Cambodian NGO Yodifee to expand their educational programs for disabled persons.
  • Step Safe provided funding to expand Yodifee’s computer training program. The program is taught by a disabled person and serves disabled students.
  • Computer skills are necessary for the disabled to further  their education and for employability.

Empowerment

  • Step Safe partnered with local Cambodian NGO New Horizons Society (NHS), an organization of federated self-help groups founded and run by disabled people dedicated to promoting equality, ending poverty, and securing life-changing opportunities for their membership.
  • Step Safe provided vital emergency operational funding as the organization was in between major grants, allowing the organization to continue providing self-help groups services including advocacy rights, social inclusion projects and microloan livelihood activities, including pig and chicken rearing, retailing, natural composting and motorcycle repairing.
  • Today NHS has secured a large multi-year grant from an international donor agency and continues to provide beneficiary-led poverty reduction projects.

Health

  • Step Safe partnered with local Cambodian NGO Teuk Sa’at to build two safe water wells.
  • The infrastructure in these villages was destroyed in the war.
  • Health care services and safe drinking was virtually non-existent, resulting in serious health issues for the villagers.
  • The disabled-accessible wells continue to supply the villagers with clean water.

Income Generation

  • Step Safe partnered with local NGO Cambodian War Amputees Society (CWARS).
  • Step Safe financial assistance provided 27 CWARS Income Generation Program Graduates with the seed money to begin their businesses.
  • The microloans were used to buy spare parts and tools for their bicycle shops and agricultural plots.
  • The microloans have been paid back and are now available for new graduates.
